Composite veneers: Dr Sheryl Smithies

Rehabilitating a smile is personal.

Dr Smithies knew that this case was close to the heart of the patient, who wanted a bigger and brighter smile. She spread the veneer treatment journey over 2 months to accommodate the general dentistry treatments and smile rehabilitation. Above all, the outcome of the composite veneers made the patient extremely happy and left him beaming with confidence.

If asked about her approach to this case, Dr Smithies answered: “There were no invasive measures taken, all teeth were preserved in their entirety and only aesthetic bonding was used.”

First Consultation

During the first dental assessment, Dr Smithies noticed that the patient required a basic filling and a zirconia crown for an upper tooth. Dr Smithies used X-rays from the CBCT scanner to identify a root canal problem. She referred the patient to Dr Sonja Britz, our endodontist, who assisted with addressing this.

Planning the smile rehabilitation

Dr Smithies initiated the planning phase of the treatment process by generating 2D and 3D impressions using the Trios® intraoral scanner. Moreover, these impressions assisted the DSD planning centre in Madrid to share insights for the optimal end result. There was no need for teeth alignment, as the patient had naturally straight teeth.

Teeth Whitening

Jolandi, our oral hygienist, completed a teeth whitening treatment before the smile rehabilitation journey was started by Dr Smithies.

Jolandi used the Philips Zoom! in-practice teeth whitening treatment for both his upper and lower teeth.

Treatment: Composite Veneers

She identified tooth wear at the patient’s top and bottom teeth, which required a buildup of resin material. Most importantly, composite veneers were the most minimally invasive and cost-effective option for this patient.

Once Dr Smithies completed the smile rehabilitation, she provided the patient with a night guard. Including, a detailed maintenance plan to look after his new smile.
