What is Endodontics?

Endodontics is a specialized field of dentistry that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions of the dental pulp, which is the soft tissue inside your teeth that contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. Endodontics plays a crucial role in maintaining the health of your teeth, as it can help prevent the spread of infection, relieve pain, and prevent the need for extraction.

For the most part, dental treatments can be scary, which is why our team is here to make sure that you are well-informed and at ease throughout the entire process. With the most cutting-edge technology and techniques – we can minimize any discomfort and make sure that your procedure goes smoothly.

Root Canal Therapy

Root canal therapy is one of the most common endodontic procedures, and it is used to treat infected or inflamed dental pulp. The treatment involves removing the damaged tissue, cleaning the inside of the tooth, and sealing it to prevent further infection. Root canal therapy can save your natural tooth and prevent the need for extraction.

Apicoectomy or Micro-endodontic surgery

An apicoectomy is a surgical procedure that is used to treat infected tissue around the root tip of a previously root canal treated tooth. The treatment is done if the area of infection does not clear up after the primary root canal treatment was done. Our team uses state of the art equipment such as 3D scanners, microscopes and lasers to achieve optimal results. During the procedure, the infected root tip is removed and the root canal sealed with a retrograde filling Bioceramic cement to allow for new bone growth and healing.

Retreatment

A tooth that has been root canal treated can become reinfected due to numerous causes.  If an existing root canal treatment gets reinfected the first choice of treatment will be to save the tooth.  Saving your natural tooth instead of getting it extracted and replaced with a prosthesis like an implant or a bridge will be the your best option of treatment if the tooth structure is still secure.  A retreatment can be performed in order to clear up the infection and to save the tooth.  This procedure is similar to a root canal treatment.  The tooth will be reopened and the existing sealant will be removed.  The root canal will be disinfected, cleaned and will be resealed.
