Juvederm Dermal Fillers

What is Juvederm?

Juvederm is a leading brand of dermal fillers designed to reduce the appearance of aging by plumping and contouring the face. The treatment is cost-effective, minimally invasive, and provides long-lasting results, working deep below the skin’s surface to fill in deep-set wrinkles that other treatments like Botox can’t reach.

At Enamel Clinic, we offer a selection of Juvederm products to help our Cape Town clients achieve the rejuvenated, youthful-looking skin they desire.

Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler used to fill in deep lines and wrinkles and enhance facial contours. It is most commonly injected into areas around the cheeks, lips, and mouth, where collagen loss tends to be prominent. Juvederm fillers are smooth and gel-like, which gives the skin a supple, plump appearance.
Juvederm’s key ingredient, hyaluronic acid, is found naturally in the body. Hyaluronic acid and collagen production decrease as we age, leading to skin sagging and wrinkles. Juvederm works by injecting hyaluronic acid into the skin to stimulate collagen production. Additionally, Juvederm can help your skin retain moisture and softness.
The Juvederm filler procedure is quick, typically lasting 15 to 60 minutes. To start, your doctor will mark designated injection areas with a pen. They will then inject Juvederm into the desired areas. Once the Juvederm is injected, your doctor will gently massage the treated areas to ensure the product is evenly distributed and help reduce swelling.
Juvederm fillers contain lidocaine, a pain-reducing ingredient that will help you experience minimal discomfort throughout the procedure. Your doctor will also apply a topical anesthetic to help with any other pain you might experience during treatment.
Juvederm results are often noticeable immediately and usually last between six months and two years, depending on the type of product used. There are different products within the Juvederm line that each address a specific concern.

Juvederm Types

Each Juvederm type contains a different hyaluronic acid concentration to help target specific concerns. The different types of Juvederm include:

  • Juvederm Voluma XC is used to plump the cheeks and provide a more youthful, lifted appearance.
  • Juvederm XC and Juvederm Vollure XC help fill out fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth and nose, also known as smile lines.
  • Juvederm Ultra XC and Juvederm Volbella XC are used for lip augmentation purposes to help plump the lips and reduce fine lines.

Depending on your desired outcome, your doctor may use one or multiple types of Juvederm.

Juvederm Filler Side Effects

Juvederm’s entire range of products is FDA-approved and assessed continuously. The product was approved in 2006, and millions of successful Juvederm treatments have been completed since.

Serious side effects from Juvederm are rare. Patients may experience minor bruising, tenderness, or swelling in the injected areas for a short period of time, with side effects usually subsiding within a few days to weeks.

 Other common side effects include:

  • redness
  • itching
  • tenderness
  • lumps or bumps
  • subtle pain

Before beginning treatment, you and your doctor will discuss potential side effects and risks and your overall health to assess your case.

Recovery time after Juvederm fillers is minimal, but your doctor may recommend avoiding the following for a few days:

  • Strenuous activities
  • Blood thinning medications such as aspirin and other anti-inflammatories
  • Alcohol consumption
  • Exposure to the sun and high temperatures

Swelling may last a little longer in specific areas. Infection is unlikely but is a minor risk, as with all injection procedures. If you have any questions or concerns about your Juvederm fillers after the procedure, feel free to contact your practitioner.
