Clear Aligner Therapy is a treatment that involves moving your teeth orthodontically, but without braces. The aligners are made out of a see-through plastic shell that fits over your teeth. They are made individually for your teeth to move them into better positions.
Depending on how far your teeth need to move, you will get a certain number of aligners to move your teeth to their ultimate position. They provide an easy and comfortable lifestyle whilst moving your teeth and the best is that they are barely visible!
Clear Aligner Therapy versus Braces?
We all know braces as being the “old-school” way of straightening your teeth. Braces or fixed orthodontics are still being used but there is another option to getting your teeth straight that does not involve braces. Clear Aligners are now being widely used to straighten teeth.
Braces cannot be removed during your treatment whereas aligners can. Aligners and braces can take the same amount of time to get similar results.
The most important difference is that the Clear Aligners are almost invisible!
How does your aligner journey work with us?
The therapy design is individualised to your specific dental needs – a series of aligners will be designed.
Each aligner is to be worn for 22 hours of the day for 2 weeks. At which stage you will change to the next aligner. This is done until you have worked your way through all the aligners and your teeth have moved to the designed position.
The great thing is that you are able to take your aligners out for eating and brushing. As part of your treatment, you may need some composite drivers bonded onto your teeth to help the aligner grip and help the movement happen more directly. These will be matched to your tooth colour and will be removed once the treatment is complete.
At the end of treatment we will make you a retainer (preferably bonded to the back of your teeth) to help prevent any relapse of your treatment.
